  1. The Gold's Gym Power Series GT 2000

Do away with gym memberships and get fit in the comfort of your own home with the Gold's Gym GT 2000 power tower. Outfitted with such features as an assisted pull-up station, assisted dip station, and multi-position push-up station, the GT 2000 is a workout warrior's best friend. The dip and pull-up station, which includes a foldaway pad, is ideal for goal-oriented training, as it helps you perform dips and pull-ups until you're strong enough to do them on your own. Or, if you prefer to do them yourself from the start, simply fold down the pad and store it out of the way. And users who want to lose inches around their waists, develop showoff-worthy abs, or tone their oblique and hip flexor muscles will dig the vertical knee-raise (VKR) station. The latter includes a pair of foldaway arms that support your weight for knee raises, then fold out of the way for pull-ups.

Other details include up to 80 pounds of assisted resistance for pull-ups and dips (with included 15- and 25-pound resistance bands); a multi-position pushup station with dedicated hand grips; and an exercise chart that tells you which exercises focus on certain muscle groups and how to efficiently perform each one. The power tower, which measures 42 by 82 by 48 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 141 pounds, requires some assembly and is backed by a 90-day warranty.

I bought a floor demo of this at Sports Authority at the same time I bought a 300# Olympic weight set. At the time I thought that I'd start exercising with this and work up to the weight set. That turned out to be exactly backwards. The main issue with this is that since the exercises are based on your body weight, if you're out of shape you're probably not strong enough to do most of the exercises this supports. So I ended up not using this for the first 3 months I had it.

After working out with weights for 3 months, I was strong enough to start doing pullups, dips, and knee raises on this device. The knee pad assist is great for pullups -- you don't have to be able to pull up your whole body weight -- the assist pad reduces the weight you're lifting between 15# and 80#. The pull bars are pretty wide but I've been happy with the variety of hand positions they support. The only position they don't support is wrists close together. You can get your wrists closer together... Read more

The product shipped very quickly via DHL Express and was delivered on a Saturday!! The shipping carton was slightly bruised but the contents were not affected as all pieces were well protected and packed properly. Assembly was easily understood based on the well thought out directions (drawings + text) and clear English language only guide book!!! The included exercise diagram (poster/wall size) is a nice touch that contains pictures of a model demonstrating suggested uses on this specific tower!! The tower is heavy, stable and easy to use after a short adjustment period. The rubber elastic bands that support the assist feature are adequate at this time. It has only been in use for a week so I will update this after a few months with impressions after a reasonable period of use! I am satisfied with my purchase at this time!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not suitable for tall people, May 20, 2011

This guy showed up in the gym at my office building. I was very excited to be able to do dips and chinups.

First impression was this piece of equipment isn't going to last... it's not commercial quality.

I'm 6'6" and this machine is not built for tall people. The assist pad goes on an angle such that you slide off when you're at the bottom of a chinup, dip, etc. Putting a towel helps some but not enough. It's not tall enough to do hanging leg lifts. The arm padding feels cheap and doesn't provide enough near my elbows when doing regular leg lifts. The only thing that does fit me properly is the dip handle width.

I gave this a 2 star just because I'm taller then the average person and wasn't sure how much it cost.
